Landscape Heritage SA
Library

The LHSA Library

The LHSA Library is just that, a library - a library of works related to the Landscape Heritage of Southern Africa. While there aren't any or many books relating to the topic specifically, as discussed elsewhere, our Landscape Heritage is broken up into three broad categories: Natural, Cultural and Designed/Desirable. Therefore we will be featuring books here that should be in any reference library on the Landscape Heritage of Southern Africa and even Africa, as we can't be so narrow-minded as to see one half of the continent apart from the other half.
We aim to feature the classic works here and slowly build up this collection. For now, books that are often long out of print still form valuable research materials for anyone researching or writing about the great diversity of our complexity of landscapes. We will arrange these in the three broad areas of landscape.

Should you wish to make your own recommendations about what should be listed here, please contact us.

The Natural Landscape Library

There is probably a wide range of resources on the Natural Landscape. These are covered in geology, geography, climatology, biodiversity, botanical, wildlife, ecology, tourism & travel, and other niche areas.

The Cultural Landscape Library

The Cultural Landscape is also becoming increasingly well covered, although it is also found under various study areas such as anthropology, archaeology & palaeontology, human studies, linguistics, histories, architecture, engineering and many other specialist writings such as report writing, impact assessments, etc.

The Desirable Landscape Library

The Designed or Desirable Landscape is perhaps the least developed, although there are numerous books written over the years, particularly in South Africa, covering garden design and gardening, landscape design, landscape architecture, postgraduate theses and other studies.
