Walks, Tours & Workshops

LHSA is aimed at both a general public and professional audience as both groups are needed to advance the cause of Landscape Heritage. Various types of events are either available or under consideration for future development.

 Walks

This year LHSA focussed on developing the first ever Landscape Heritage Route in the region starting off in the Mother City, Cape Town.

Titled Cape Town Heritage Garden Route, the route covers 10 historic/heritage gardens from the primary Company's Gardens in central Cape Town, then following the development of parks and gardens from the 1650s through three centuries to the 1950s ending at Casa Labia, the smallest garden of all!

LHSA is developing other routes which we will be walking in 2024:

  • CT Atlantic Seaboard

  • Cape Peninsula

  • Winelands

Each Landscape Heritage Route has 10 historic/heritage gardens to enjoy!

Tours

LHSA also hosted its first ever private heritage garden tour to the renowned romantic gardens of the Hogsback in the Amathole Mountains of the Eastern Cape.

The tour was a great success and visited 8 fabulous gardens in the English style of Rhododendrons and Azaleas under the most incredible tall trees you can experience including the magnificent Dawn Redwoods.

These gardens are entirely exotic and the inspiration of an Englishman from Oxfordshire. The results are superb and overwhelmingly beautiful. The impact of these extensive gardens and some small ones is truly magnificent.
